The Grolife team and fleet from above

the people behind every grolife site.

Built from a single truck in Logan in 2016 to three Grolife companies maintaining commercial, retail, industrial and premium residential properties across Queensland today — same founder, same standards, same philosophy.

our story

one truck.
one client.
ten years on.

Grolife started in 2016 — when Cameron Stacey backed himself with a single truck and trailer in Logan. For years he'd been running the landscape maintenance and indoor plantscape divisions of his father's indoor plant hire business, looking after retail centres and commercial offices across South East Queensland. As his father moved toward retirement, Cameron was ready to start his own journey — with new technology and a fresh way of operating in mind. By the end of 2016, he set out on his own.

The early days were seven-day weeks running the new business by day and driving Uber by night. The handful of retail clients who came across from the family business — including Retail First Shopping Centres, still with us today — were the foundation everything else was built on. Even then, the focus was deliberate: commercial, retail, industrial and premium residential properties — clients who valued systems, compliance, professionalism and clear communication over the lowest price.

The name Grolife was deliberate too. More than a company name, it's a philosophy: we listen, we learn, we grow — for life. We never rest on our laurels and we never stop looking for ways to be better — for our staff, for our clients, and for the landscapes we look after.

In 2018 we moved into our current Fortitude Valley base. The following year, winning the Home Co portfolio opened up Cairns, Mackay, Townsville and Toowoomba — with contracts at ISPT Retail and Centuria Properties following soon after to round out the regional Queensland footprint. Today, Grolife sits under one banner with three core companies — Grolife Landscape Management, Grolife Property Services and Grolife Indoor Plantscapes — built to give facilities managers one accountable partner across the trades that keep their properties running.

Grolife was never built alone. Many of the people who joined in the founding years are still with us today — including Darren Bell, now our Operations Manager, and Shane Evans, who has worked his way up to Assistant Operations Manager. In 2019, Michael Spackman joined as Director and owner of Grolife Property Services, later partnered by Chris Abbott as co-owner and General Manager. In 2021, Michael Harding came on board as Director and owner of Grolife Indoor Plantscapes, completing the three-company group. The same year, Lachlan Van Der Horn joined as Operations Manager, stepped up to General Manager in 2023, and became a part owner in 2026 — the driving force behind much of the company's success today. The original vision still applies: lead the industry on technology, build a team that takes pride in the work, and never stop growing — as a company, as people, as a service.

what one of our biggest retail clients told us when the lockdowns hit.
0%+
of our client base, lost overnight

By early 2020, around 80% of our client base sat in the retail sector — and then COVID-19 hit. With retail centres forced into lockdown, many discontinued their service until the shutdowns lifted. We lost more than half our client base in a fortnight. It was the hardest moment in the company's history.

Watching what was happening, we made a call: online shopping was about to explode, and with it, industrial and logistics sites — distribution centres, warehouses, the back-end of e-commerce. We pivoted Grolife's focus into that sector hard, picked up new contracts, and by the time retail came back online, we'd grown — by over 40% in 12 months.

leading the industry on technology

always growing.
always ahead.

From the day Grolife started, we've used technology to lift the bar — for our clients, our crews, and the industry. Four moments along the way that defined how we work today.

2016
On-site reporting via tablet — our in-house job management system from day one
in-house build

our own job management system.

One of the biggest frustrations our clients had was simple: they didn't know when their contractors were on-site, how long they were there, or what they actually did. So we built a system that gave them full transparency — a booking notice via email, a text on arrival, and a comprehensive service report after every visit with GPS-tracked checklist items, time-stamped photos of completed works, and notes on any issues spotted on-site.

2022
Ventrac multi-use tractor — sourced from the world's largest landscape tradeshow in the United States
study tour

sourcing the future.

Cameron travelled to the world's largest landscape tradeshow in the United States with a single brief: find the technology the rest of the world was already using that Australia hadn't picked up yet. First decision after the trip — bring the Ventrac multi-use tractor into the Grolife fleet, the first of its kind on our sites.

2024
Kress battery-electric commercial equipment — 80% of our fleet runs full electric
battery-electric leadership

partnered with kress commercial.

Stepped up to lead the Australian industry in battery-electric power tools. Today 80% of our fleet runs full electric, powered by the Kress CyberTank with its 8-minute charge cycle. Quieter, cleaner sites — no compromise on grunt.

2026
Kress Voyager autonomous zero-turn mower — Australia's first commercial-grade unit
australian first

kress voyager — autonomous mowing.

Acquired Australia's first commercial-grade autonomous zero-turn mower with the Kress Voyager. The next chapter in how commercial landscape maintenance gets delivered — and we're writing it first.

three values, one promise

what we hold ourselves to.

These three values weren't picked in a brand workshop — they came out of the issues our clients told us they were facing, and a simple realisation: with these three in place, you can recover from any problem. Things will go wrong. We'll fail from time to time. Clients don't judge us on whether a problem happened — they judge us on how we respond to it.

01 — value

honesty

We're transparent and truthful in every interaction. We say what we mean, deliver what we promise, and own our mistakes when we make them.

02 — value

communication

We listen first, respond clearly, and keep you informed at every stage. No surprises, no jargon, no chasing — just steady, direct, on-time updates.

03 — value

reliability

We turn up when we say we will, do what we said we would, and stand behind our work. Our word is our bond, and the program runs on it.

The five-year plan is simple: perfect what we've built, develop the best team in the country, then take the same operating standard south — into New South Wales and Victoria by the end of the decade.

The same playbook that grew us across Queensland scales. The same values, the same systems, the same accountability — just in more places.
